In a continued effort to strengthen agricultural transformation in Busoga Sub-region, the Busoga Consortium for Development distributed tarpaulins to soya farmers in selected model villages across Kamuli, Mayuge, and Namayingo Districts.

The handover function, held at Busana Model Village in Kamuli District, was presided over by the Director General of the Busoga Consortium, Mr. Mula Anthony, who emphasized the importance of proper post-harvest handling in improving crop quality and market value.

“We are committed to ensuring that farmers in our model villages do not just grow food but grow wealth. The provision of tarpaulins is part of our broader strategy to add value, reduce post-harvest losses, and support sustainable livelihoods,” Mr. Mula said during the ceremony.

The initiative has so far benefited farmers in three model villages:
Busana in Kamuli District, Mashaiga in Mayuge District, Namayombe in Namayingo District
These villages were selected under the Consortium’s Model Village Program, which focuses on integrated rural development through agribusiness, digital inclusion, and value addition.

Currently, farmers in these areas are harvesting soya beans, and the distribution of tarpaulins is seen as timely and essential in preventing post-harvest losses caused by improper drying methods.
The event was attended by members of the Village Agricultural Committees (VAC), local government agricultural officers, and representatives from the farming communities. Many farmers expressed gratitude for the support, noting that it would improve both the quality and quantity of their harvests.

“Before, we used to dry our harvests on bare ground which exposed them to dirt and contamination. With these tarpaulins, we can now meet the required quality standards for larger markets,” said Suleman Amisi  from Mashaiga model village in Mayuge.

The Busoga Consortium continues to rally stakeholders, including government agencies, research institutions, and development partners to scale up support for farmers and accelerate rural transformation across the region.
