Rt. Hon. Kadaga expressed deep pride in the students’ eloquence, confidence, and the powerful poetry.

She pledged to engage the Ministry of Education and Sports and H.E. the President to ensure the team receives national recognition and financial reward for flying Uganda’s flag high.

She further called for increased government support toward debating and intellectual development, noting that academic competitions deserve the same attention and facilitation often accorded to football and other sports.

The delegation was led by Ms. Nabuzale Cathy Deputy Head Teacher, Administration, Kiira College Butiki who described debating as a transformative tool for personal growth:
“Debating is a powerful tool for personal growth and development. These students have shown that they can engage with complex ideas, think critically, and express themselves eloquently.”

She expressed gratitude to the Headteacher Mr. Moses Semwanga for his spiritual, moral, and logistical support, which ensured the team’s welfare and effective participation at the championship.
She also appreciated Rt. Hon. Kadaga for celebrating the students and recognizing their achievement. The visit was marked by cake-cutting and jubilation as the delegation proudly reflected on their international milestone.

She further proposed that Uganda should, in future, field officially recognized national debate teams rather than leaving individual schools to compete independently. They observed that many countries participated as national teams, a model Uganda could adopt to enhance coordination, competitiveness, and global visibility.

Rt. Hon. Kadaga once again congratulated the students, warmly welcomed them back home, and commended their discipline, passion, and commitment to excellence.

The Eurasian Schools Debating Championship provides a powerful platform for young leaders to engage in meaningful dialogue, sharpen their analytical skills, and foster international understanding.

Kiira College Butiki’s achievement stands as a shining testament to the school’s dedication to academic excellence and leadership development. From Busoga to the world stage, these young debaters have proven that Ugandan students can compete confidently and excel among the best globally when given opportunity and support.

Kamuli District, 10th February 2026

The Busoga Consortium for Development (BCD) convened a high-level stakeholders’ planning meeting on 6th February 2026 at the Kamuli District Local Government Headquarters, bringing together district leaders, different District production officers, Busoga Kingdom ministers, and technical officers to strategize on accelerating socio-economic transformation across the Busoga sub-region.

In his remarks, the New Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) commended the Busoga Consortium for its consistent efforts in mobilizing regional development initiatives aimed at lifting communities out of poverty.

He noted that after being briefed by the Director General of BCD, Mr. Mula Anthony, he was impressed by the Consortium’s mission to accelerate Busoga’s social, economic, and political development through community-driven approaches. He pledged full support from the Kamuli District Local Government and encouraged deeper engagement with business communities, traders, and faith-based institutions to strengthen sustainability.

The meeting was attended by the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of Kamuli District, Mr. Ben Marley Lawrence; the District Chairperson, Ms. Sarah Sambya; Busoga District Production Officers; Owek. Sam Nkenga, Minister of Agriculture, Busoga Kingdom; Owek. Nantale Nasabu, Minister of Education, Busoga Kingdom; BCD Chinese Development Patners, and other key stakeholders.

The District Chairperson, Ms. Sarah Sambya, applauded BCD’s Village Agricultural Model (VAM), describing it as a transformative intervention that complements local government programs.

She highlighted ongoing initiatives including chili growing, soya production, and poultry farming, noting that capacity-building visits to China had positively transformed the mindset of participating leaders abd youth.

Delivering a comprehensive address, the Director General, Mr. Mula Anthony, traced the background of BCD, established in April 2017 under the oversight of the Office of the Vice President and guided by His Royal Highness the Kyabazinga of Busoga. He recalled the launch of the 10-Year Busoga Development Agenda (BDA) on 20th September 2020, designed to guide the region’s socio-economic transformation, with commercial agriculture as a leading pillar.

Mr. Mula highlighted the partnership between BCD and China Agricultural University (CAU), which led to the conceptualization of the Village Agricultural Model. The initiative was officially launched in August 2024 and aims to establish 12 model villages one per local government by 2027, with the ultimate goal of eliminating poverty in Busoga by 2030.

Currently, three pioneer model villages are operational in Busana (Kamuli District), Mashaiga (Mayuge District), and Namayombe (Namayingo District). Plans are underway to add five more villages by mid-2026.

Among the key programs discussed was the chili export initiative, where Busoga made history by growing Ugsnda 1st Chilli export consignment to Shanghai China flagged by H.E the President of Uganda in November 2025. He noted that a minimum of 300 tonnes of dried chili was expected to produced by Busoga for export to the Chinese market in 2026 worth a UGX 1.2 Billion. A minimum price of UGX 4,000 per kilogram was negotiated by BCD as sale price for dried Chilli but with chances of improving when prices in China improve.

The DG also highlighted the poultry project that has supported 300 households across the three model villages with improved Rainbow chickens. He noted that during the next phase of distribution, all the remaining households in the 3 model villages totaling approximately 1500 would recieve poultry for both nutrition and boosting household incomes.

A major highlight of the meeting was the upcoming BCD-CAU Soya Milk Feeding Program, which will be piloted in primary schools within the model villages. The program aims to improve learners’ nutrition, health, and academic performance.

Preparations include training local personnel in processing of soya milk, procurement of soya milk processing machines, and revival of school gardens to ensure sustainability.

Additionally, the BCD digital learning initiative, implemented in partnership with Hisense Uganda, has equipped 50 primary schools with television screens, cameras, and internet modems to facilitate real-time online learning and improve educational outcomes.

During discussions, stakeholders emphasized the need to address gender-based violence, promote coffee as a key alternative cash crop, expand soya and maize production for food security, and promote cassava for the emerging processing industry located in Kamuli district.

The meeting resolved that District Production Offices will play a central role in mobilizing communities and disseminating information about BCD programs.

Owek. Sam Nkenga and Owek. Nantale Nasabu pledged the full support of the Busoga Kingdom to ensure the success of the initiatives.

In conclusion, Mr. Mula Anthony reaffirmed BCD’s vision of realizing a socially and economically prosperous Busoga by 2030 and called upon all stakeholders to unite in advancing the transformation agenda.

The Busoga Consortium for Development (BCD), in partnership with the China–Uganda Agricultural Cooperation Industrial Park, is proudly set to welcome H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the President of the Republic of Uganda, to officiate the Flag-Off of the First Chilli Container from Busoga to China.

The event will take place on 20th November 2025 at Kamuli Youth Centre in Kamuli District.

This landmark occasion marks a historic step in strengthening agricultural exports, promoting industrial cooperation, and accelerating rural transformation across Busoga and Uganda at large. It stands as a shining example of how strategic partnerships can unlock economic potential and transform livelihoods.

Speaking ahead of the ceremony, Dr. Mula Anthony, the Director General of the Busoga Consortium for Development, described the milestone as a powerful symbol of progress and opportunity for the people of Busoga.

“This is the first container of chilli to be exported from Busoga, championed under the Busoga Consortium initiative. It is a testament to our commitment to improving the financial well-being of our local farmers and empowering rural communities,” he said.

Mr. Mula further noted that this shipment is the direct outcome of the Chilli Export Protocol signed in September 2024 during the Beijing Forum on China–Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) between Uganda and China a landmark agreement witnessed by H.E. Jessica Alupo, the Vice President of the Republic of Uganda.

The chilli export project forms part of BCD’s broader agenda to promote value addition, enhance agricultural productivity, and open up international markets for Ugandan produce. It also demonstrates the success of public–private partnerships and the growing trust between Uganda and China in advancing shared development goals.

As Busoga takes this remarkable step into the global export market, the Consortium remains steadfast in its mission to build a self-reliant, prosperous, and globally competitive region.

Congratulations, Busoga! Together, we rise.

The partnership between Busoga and China continues to grow stronger as a second delegation of young Ugandans is currently in China for a Seminar on Sustainable Development Capacity and South-to-South Cooperation in Sustainable Development for Developing Countries.

The program runs from 9th to 29th September 2025 and is being conducted by the China International Economic Consultants Co., Ltd.
The training is equipping participants with knowledge, skills, and practical strategies to advance sustainable development in their countries. Delegates from various developing nations are taking part, sharing experiences and exploring solutions to common challenges in poverty reduction, community empowerment, and people-centred transformation.
