Jinja School of Nursing and Midwifery and Shenyang Medical College of Shenyang City of Liaoning Province in China have signed a 5 year cooperation agreement. This followed the expiry of the same agreement between the two institutions that had been signed on September 11th, 2024 in Shenyang, Liaoning Province.
The Agreement was signed by the Director General Busoga Consortium for Development (BCD) Mr. Mula Anthony on behalf of Jinja School of Nursing of Nursing and Busoga at a ceremony held on Monday 18th October 2024 at the College Headquarters in Shenyang City, Liaoning Province. Mr. Mula Anthony who led the delegation conveyed the warm greetings of the Principal Jinja School of Nursing and Midwifery Ms. Mebra Mukabiza, and underscored the significant importance attached to the cooperation as a means to enhancement of Academic Excellence by the School.
According to Mr. Mula, the Cooperation shall focus on the promotion of tutor and student exchanges, joint research , exchange of academic materials, publications and information and among others. During the discussions, the President of Shenyang Medical College Prof. Wu Yudong welcomed the idea for the two medical institutions bonding for a common cause. He noted that the College had in the past hosted 8 students from Uganda who had exhibited excellence in their performance. He underscored the importance of the signed cooperation to the framework of the China Africa Cooperation. Prof. Zhang Yan the Dean of International Relations was assigned as focal person for Shenyang Medical College.
Shenyang Medical College was established in 1949 to provide undergraduate, postgraduate and PHD programs in medical programs. The University has 1000 facilities offering different academic programs including Nursing Programs. Mr. Mula applauded Shenyang Medical University for the commitment towards the promotion of the China Africa Cooperation through the embracement of the cooperation.He noted that while the cooperation had been established by the two institutions in September 2018, the COVID-19 Pandemic had hindered it’s takeoff and fruitfulness.
“Your Excellence , it’s Covid -19; that distracted us, and I wish to use this opportunity to request for the activation of the tutor and students exchanges as 1st project under the established cooperation” – Mr.Mula Said . Mula further explained the relevancy of the cooperation to the bigger framework of the China Africa Cooperation following the recent establishment of cooperation between Liaoning Province and Busoga Consortium for Development in July 2024.
Additionally, Mr.Mula extended an invitation to the President of Shenyang Medical College to visit Jinja and Uganda during next year to further boost the cooperation. The Busoga region has, in the last twelve months, strengthened its ties with China under the China Africa cooperation that started many years back putting Busoga in limelight as a Model region for fast growth .
