Beneficiaries of the China-Uganda Training on Poverty Reduction convened at the Civil Service College in Jinja today to present their reports and share experiences from their transformative training in China.
The program, organized by the Busoga Consortium in partnership with China Agricultural University, Tencent Holdings, AIBO University, and Nanjing University, aimed to equip participants with innovative solutions for poverty alleviation and sustainable development in Busoga.
The participants, a diverse team of professionals, acquired skills in areas such as inclusive growth, sustainable poverty reduction, agricultural park management, and youth entrepreneurship.
The training also underscored the growing diplomatic ties between Busoga and Liaoning Province, highlighting a shared commitment,
Mastulah Namatovu, Chairperson of the Kimuli Women Council, presented insights from her seminar on the Construction and Management of Agricultural Parks, held from August 22 to September 4, 2024, in Beijing and Hubei Province. She highlighted the benefits of field visits and cultural exchanges, recommending the adoption of China’s agricultural park model to boost agribusiness in Busoga.
Dr. Joyce Abaliwano reported on the lnclusive Growth and Sustainable Poverty Reduction Seminar held from October 31 to November 13, 2024. Her presentation emphasized the importance of inclusive strategies in fostering collaboration among participants from various countries.
Mr. Isaac Imaka, Executive Director of the Bugabula Royal Foundation, shared his experiences from the Young Rural Entrepreneur Initiative, which took place from November 4th to November 14th, 2024. His report showcased innovative approaches to empowering youth in rural development.
Mr. Mwesigwa Mark Suubi detailed his participation in the Rural Development and Poverty Reduction for Developing Countries Program, held from October 16th to October 29th, 2024. He gained valuable insights into practical poverty reduction strategies adaptable to Busoga’s needs.
Participants commended the leadership of Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga, Patron of the Busoga Consortium for Dev’t, and expressed gratitude to Tencent Holdings and other Chinese institutions for their facilitation of the program. They highlighted the importance of such initiatives in building capacity to address poverty and promote sustainable growth in the region.
The Director General of the Busoga Consortium, Mr. Mula Anthony, applauded the participants for their dedication and encouraged the implementation of their recommendations to transform Busoga. He also reaffirmed the Consortium’s commitment to strengthening diplomatic and development ties with Liaoning Province and other Chinese partners.
The training marked a significant step in equipping Busoga leaders and stakeholders with the tools needed to tackle poverty and drive regional development, laying a foundation for a prosperous future.
