The Busoga Consortium will work towards twinning selected health centres in the sub-region with medical facilities and health research institutions elsewhere to bridge the gap between emerging health care technologies and current practices. Globally, the application of technology in health care delivery has been embraced to improve the treatment and reduce the cost of services. The most common innovation in the last decade is online diagnosis and prescription that has reduced the need for regular interface between the patient and the specialised doctor. One of the recent innovations using technology to deliver health care is telemedicine. Working in partnership with Jinja Regional Referral Hospital and other partners, the Busoga Consortium will introduce telemedicine as a system of specialised diagnosis and prescription for patients with serious medical conditions. Telemedicine will involve Jinja twining with a specialised medical facility elsewhere for clinical consultations between medical professionals, and for the education and training of medical staffs. All the options for using telemedicine, for example one as simple as a telephone conversation between personnel, or as complex as a real-time interactive video examination of a patient conducted by physicians separated by hundreds of miles, will be developed and applied.
