
The Director General of the Busoga Consortium, Mr. Mula Anthony, together with the leadership of Namayingo District, convened a briefing meeting with 100 household farmers in Namayombe Village. These farmers have been selected to pioneer soya bean cultivation under the Village Agricultural Model (VAM) initiative.
The meeting aimed to brief the farmers on the requirements and timelines for the project’s implementation. Mr. Ronald Sanya, the Namayingo District Chairperson, encouraged the farmers to embrace the project as a means to transforming their livelihoods. He urged them to set an example for neighboring villages and Namayingo district at large by successfully implementing the initiative.
The Village Agricultural Model was officially launched in August 2024 by the Vice President Rtd Maj H.E Jessica Alupo who was represented by the Third Deputy Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Rukia Nakadama .
Namayombe Village was chosen as a model village alongside Busana Village in Kamuli District and Mashiga Village in Mayuge District.
During the meeting, Director General Mula Anthony reaffirmed that the VAM project will commence with 100 households, each contributing one acre of land for soya bean cultivation. He emphasized the economic potential of soya bean, highlighting its multiple uses, including the production of soya milk, porridge, animal feeds, and other processed products that can generate income for farmers.

As part of his engagement with the farmers, Mr. Mula Anthony introduced them to imported soya milk from Thailand, demonstrating the possibilities of local production. He challenged the farmers to embrace practices and work ethics of successful people such as hard work, visionary, teamwork, respect for leaders and eachother, loyalty, among others. He further noted that BCD in collaboration with China Agricultural University and Tencent holding are working on attracting value addition for soya beans in Namayombe Village to ensure good incomes for desired household transformation. Apart from soya beans, households will also be rallied for poultry rearing as well as growing of Cassava, coffee, among other crop enterprises for both income and food security.
District Chairperson Ronald Sanya commended the Director General for his unwavering commitment to Namayombe’s development. He urged the community to seize this opportunity, work diligently, and support the Vice President’s office in its efforts to uplift rural farmers.

The 100 pioneering farmers, along with additional stakeholders from Busana, expressed their enthusiasm for the project. Farmers resolved to prepare their one acre each by Wednesday 19th March 2025 in move to catch up with the current planting season.
This strategic intervention under the Busoga Consortium aligns with the broader goal of enhancing agricultural productivity, increasing household incomes, and fostering sustainable development across the region and resonates with the goals of the Parish Development Model.
