Jinja School Of Nursing And Midwifery Renews MOU With Shenyang Medical College.

In a significant milestone for education and healthcare development, Jinja School of Nursing and Midwifery renewed its Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Shenyang Medical College, China, for a duration of five years. This renewal follows an initial agreement signed on September 11, 2018, which was hindered from full implementation due to the global disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to its expiry in 2023.

The renewed collaboration was initiated during a visit to Liaoning Province in November 2024 by Dr. Anthony Mula, the Director General of the Busoga Consortium. He led a delegation to Shenyang Medical College, where fruitful discussions with the management resulting in the decision to extend the cooperation.

On November 19, 2024, Dr. Mula signed the agreement on behalf of Jinja School of Nursing and Midwifery along with Prof. Wu Yudong President of Shenyang Medical College leading to the renewal of cooperation for the institutions for an extended 5 years up to 20230.

Shenyang Medical College, a top-tier institution in Shenyang city, offers advanced health education and training, including bachelor’s and higher-level programs. The renewed MOU aims to foster collaboration in areas such as:

• Exchange of teachers and students.
• Sharing of academic materials, publications, and research findings.
• Development of joint research initiatives.

The partnership is expected to enhance the academic and professional capacities of both institutions, with a particular emphasis on leveraging research and innovation to the benefit of both Countries, Uganda and China.

Dr. Mula urged Jinja School of Nursing and Midwifery to embrace this opportunity strategically as he emphasized the importance of learning the Chinese language to facilitate communication and maximize the benefits of the partnership.

He officially handled over the signed cooperation from Shenyang Medical college to Mrs. Mulabiza Mebra, the principle of jinja school of Nursing and Midwifery at College in Jinja during his visit to the School on Wednesday 8th January 2024.

Mrs. Mulabiza Mebra expressed her gratitude to Dr. Mula and the leadership of BCD for the efforts in securing the renewal of the cooperation.

She affirmed the school’s readiness to fully engage with Shenyang Medical College, stating:
“Stakeholders have been incredibly supportive of our school, and we are eager to work closely with Shenyang Medical College to achieve mutual goals. This partnership marks a transformative step for our institution and students.”

The renewed cooperation is a testament to the strong ties between Uganda and China, especially in the field of education and health. It underscores the commitment of both institutions to advancing knowledge and improving healthcare through collaborative efforts.

As this partnership takes root, the exchange of expertise and resources is expected to pave the way for significant advancements, benefiting both institutions and the communities they serve.
